When vacationing on barrier islands, one can see a multitude of shorebirds taking advantage of the foraging opportunities to find their dinner. They each have their own specific method of foraging determined on the tools with which they have…their bills. The Curlew has the long down-curved bill, the herons have a spear-like bill and the sandpipers & plovers have strong short bills. How interesting it is to observe the species at work.
