When We Are On the Receiving End…
I KNOW you’ve had moments like these. The ones when your mind is cluttered and your heart is heavy with concerns for friends and family suffering. For me, these times are the times when I realize the great value in those who work at living a life measured by kindness. Our kindness to others comes in all sorts of packages neatly wrapped in caring, in a tender hug, a smile or maybe just an encouraging word. Often, we don’t even realize when we extend our kindness to someone who really needs it, but we surely do realize it when we are on the receiving end! People who know me know that I am a nature nut! I am especially fond of birds…caring for them, watching and photographing them brings me great joy. Tonight, with many concerns on my mind, I saw on Facebook the greatest photo of a Pileated Woodpecker and three nestlings in a tree taken by Certified Wildlife Habitat. This photo in a nanosecond lifted my spirits so. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy as I thought about how cute they are and how colorful God designed them. But the thing that REALLY got me thinking was that my Facebook friend who also is a bird and photography enthusiast that I have never met posted that photo having no idea what it would do for me tonight. I’m sure she saw it and got a kick out of it and just wanted to pass it on. But, in doing that, she passed on much more than a cute photo… What do you think our world would be like today if EVERYONE focused on living a life of intentional kindness?
